Explorer Society’s April 2026 Bigfoot Expedition with Dr. Mireya Mayor and Russell Acord

Explorer Society’s Inaugural Bigfoot Expedition

In April 2026, Explorer Society hosted its inaugural Bigfoot Expedition in the mountains of Ellijay, Georgia. Led by renowned primatologist Dr. Mireya Mayor, survival expert and Expedition Bigfoot co-host Russell Acord, and seasoned investigators Sheila and Scott Granger of Squatch-Fishing Outfitters, twenty Explorer Society members embarked on an unforgettable weekend of exploration, learning, and adventure.

From the moment the group entered the forest, participants experienced what it’s like to investigate one of the world’s greatest mysteries alongside experts who have spent years in the field.

Day and Night Investigations

Throughout the weekend, the team conducted multiple daytime and nighttime investigations, searching for evidence through observation, listening, and documentation.

One evening, a FLIR thermal camera detected a large figure moving just ahead of the group on a wooded trail. Although the image disappeared before it could be recorded on video, it became one of the expedition’s most talked-about moments.

Interestingly, some of the most memorable experiences happened back at base camp. Participants who remained behind frequently reported hearing unexplained knocks, distant whoops, and unusual sounds from the surrounding forest. As Russ often says, curiosity can work both ways—and sometimes it feels like the forest is watching you, too.

Learn from the Experts

Every expedition is designed as an immersive, hands-on classroom.

As the group explored the forests of North Georgia, Dr. Mireya Mayor and Russell Acord shared techniques they’ve developed through years of field research, teaching participants how to recognize potential signs of activity, interpret sounds, and document observations.

Guests also had the opportunity to use professional parabolic microphones to listen deep into the surrounding wilderness, with several participants hearing distinctive whoops and wood knocks during the weekend.

Russ also led a footprint-casting workshop, demonstrating how researchers preserve tracks and other physical evidence encountered in the field. It’s a fascinating skill—and one every Bigfoot enthusiast hopes they’ll someday need.

Exclusive Visit to Expedition Bigfoot: The Sasquatch Museum

One afternoon, the group enjoyed exclusive access to Expedition Bigfoot: The Sasquatch Museum, widely regarded as one of the premier Bigfoot museums in the United States.

The museum features one of the country’s largest collections of footprint casts, immersive life-sized exhibits, the Sasquatch Theater, and an impressive research center dedicated to the ongoing study of the Bigfoot phenomenon.

The visit perfectly complemented the field investigations, giving participants a deeper understanding of the history, evidence, and research surrounding this enduring mystery.
